Company affirms commitment to sustainability and momentum in diversity, equity, and inclusion

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (April 28, 2021) – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH) – the world’s largest hotel franchising company with over 8,900 hotels across nearly 95 countries and territories – today released its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report highlighting its commitment to operate in a way that is socially, ethically and environmentally responsible.

“As the world’s largest hotel company, we have a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the world while delivering on our mission to make hotel travel possible for all,” said Geoffrey A. Ballotti, president and chief executive officer, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “Now, more than ever, we must help ensure the future remains bright for travelers while we continue to build a culture in which all people feel welcomed and appreciated.”

Community and COVID-19 Response
As a hospitality company, service and volunteering are part of Wyndham’s culture. Team members and franchisees rallied during the pandemic to actively engage in their communities, generously giving time and resources to enhance the lives of others. The examples are numerous, and include:

  • The Wyndham Garden Dallas North in Texas, which offered 300 hotel rooms to first responders during the height of the pandemic.
  • Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Niagara Falls, N.Y., where the hotel owner and his family handcrafted more than 2,000 facemasks for the community when they were desperately needed.
  • The Ramada Suites by Wyndham Remarkables Park Queenstown, New Zealand welcomed eight new babies when the nearest hospital had to relocate its maternity ward due to the pandemic.

Wyndham’s owner-first mindset enabled the vast majority of franchisees – who are primarily small business owners – to keep their hotels open during the pandemic when people were traveling less. The company offered multiple fee waivers and extensions, access to hospital-grade cleaning and safety products at reduced prices when these items were difficult to source, and relaxed housekeeping requirements that helped reduce water and energy use. Whether hotels are welcoming leisure guests looking for an escape to national parks and beaches, or hosting everyday business travelers such as utility workers and construction crews, the company’s “Count on Us” health and safety protocols continue to provide guests peace of mind when they stay with Wyndham.

Commitment to Sustainability
Wyndham is committed to operating sustainably in a way that provides outstanding experiences to those it serves. The company created the Wyndham Green Program, a five-level certification program that helps reduce a hotel’s environmental footprint. The program includes a proprietary environmental management tool that tracks data to help hotels improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions, conserve water, and reduce waste. The company’s work has been recognized through its participation in CDP’s carbon disclosure climate change program, where Wyndham achieved the leadership band for sustainability performance and disclosure.

Our Focus on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Wyndham strives to maintain a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion across its organization. The company has increased senior leadership engagement in its Affinity Business Groups and continues to build on its robust Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training programs.  For the third year in a row, the company received a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Index, designating Wyndham as a best place to work as well as having been named by DiversityInc as a noteworthy company for its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

“We respect differences in people, ideas, and experiences, and we understand that we can only truly succeed by bringing together varying backgrounds and points of view. While we have been recognized for the progress we have made on our journey to date, we know we can – and will – continue to do more,” said, Monica Melancon, chief human resource officer, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts prepared its ESG report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, integrating the recommendations of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). The company obtained third-party assurance over selected data disclosed in this report, as indicated by the 2020 Assurance Statement included in the report. All financial figures indicated in the report are in U.S. dollars, unless otherwise noted.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – January 22, 2020 – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH), the world’s largest hotel franchising company with approximately 9,200 hotels across 80 countries, today reinforced its commitment to help combat human trafficking.

At its first global Town Hall event of the year, Wyndham today affirmed its ongoing commitment to support human trafficking awareness and prevention efforts and announced its donation of 1 million Wyndham Rewards points to Polaris, a leader in the global fight to eradicate human trafficking.

Wyndham also announced its commitment to achieve – by year end – 10 million points donated by Wyndham and Wyndham Rewards members to Polaris since 2008. For Wyndham Rewards members interested in donating points to Polaris, visit the Wyndham Rewards website or click here.

“We condemn human trafficking in any form,” said Wyndham Hotels & Resorts President and Chief Executive Officer Geoff Ballotti. “In recognition of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we want to reinforce our partnerships with Polaris and other important anti-trafficking organizations, while continuing to educate the hospitality community on how to help identify and report trafficking activities.” Wyndham mandates human trafficking training for all company employees globally.

Polaris acts as a catalyst to systemically disrupt human trafficking by helping survivors restore their freedom, preventing more victims, and leveraging data and technology to pursue traffickers wherever they operate. Polaris uses Wyndham Rewards points in part for short-term stays for victims so they have a safe place to sleep while waiting for a spot in a shelter to open.

“Having a safe place to stay, even just overnight, is a vital first step in helping sex and labor trafficking survivors break free from their situations,” said Emily Tracy, chief development officer for Polaris, who received the points donation at today’s event. “Wyndham’s donation – one of many over the course of our 10-year partnership – will help survivors to move forward with their lives. We look forward to working together in the future to continue to address all of the ways that hospitality companies can and must play a role in the prevention and detection of sex and labor trafficking.”

In addition to Polaris, Wyndham supports the work of other organizations to promote awareness on how to identify and report suspected instances of human trafficking, including the American Hotel & Lodging Association, the Asian American Hotel Owners Association, End Child Prostitution and Trafficking, and International Tourism Partnership. Wyndham works with these organizations and others to educate employees across its business on the important issue of human trafficking.

Hotel guests also can spot the signs of trafficking. Guests who suspect trafficking or abuse can alert hotel management or security, or dial 911 or their local emergency number. They also can contact the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888 or text “BeFree” (233733) in the U.S., or visit GlobalModernSlavery.org for global information.

With room openings doubled year-over-year, adventure-focused economy brand accelerates growth with new initiatives aimed to lower costs, attract new owners and promote practical sustainability

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (Nov. 7, 2019) – Travelodge® by Wyndham – part of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH), the world’s largest hotel franchising company with more than 9,200 hotels in over 80 countries – is building upon its 2019 growth momentum with the introduction of a new program in 2020 touting initiatives that streamline operations to drive value to owners while helping reduce the brand’s environmental impact.

The adventure-focused brand, which has more than doubled its openings year-over-year as of the third quarter, has a history of eco-friendly efforts based on its strong concentration near many U.S. national parks. The new initiative, Travelodge + GO Green, aims to reduce overall waste while increasing operating efficiencies – and cost savings – with new breakfast, housekeeping and amenity programs.

“With more than 75 percent of hotels just an hour’s drive from a national park, Travelodge has always supported the preservation of our natural resources for generations of travelers to come,” said John Henderson, brand leader of Travelodge. “As we continue to grow the brand in new destinations, we’re taking that commitment one step further by reducing our impact on the environment while making our hotels even more efficient to own and operate.”

Travelodge + GO Green will introduce several new initiatives in 2020, including:

  • Flexible Breakfast: Travelodge franchisees will have the option to choose the right breakfast offering for their local market. To reduce waste, hotels in markets that don’t require full continental breakfast may consider alternate offerings such as a 24-hour coffee station, signature Grab + GO snack bags, or a revenue-generating mart option.
  • Green Housekeeping: Following a successful four-month pilot, Travelodge hotels will offer guests the opportunity to opt out of housekeeping service in exchange for 500 Wyndham Rewards® points per stay. The effort not only supports the brand’s award-winning Wyndham Rewards program, but also creates opportunities for savings in cleaning and laundry supplies.
  • Bulk Soap Amenities: Travelodge is also in the process of identifying eco-friendly, cost-effective and attractive soap dispenser solutions to reduce single-use plastics and amenity waste.

Slated to launch in early 2020, the program is designed to attract hoteliers who believe in sensible, sustainable operations and connect with new generations of conscious travelers. Eric Sheckleton, who owns three Travelodge by Wyndham hotels in the vicinity of Yellowstone National Park, was an early adopter of the brand’s new breakfast and housekeeping programs:

“As an adventure traveler myself, I fell in love with Travelodge’s basecamp for adventure message and was so excited to hear that the brand is exploring innovative ways for owners to reduce their environmental footprint,” said Sheckleton. “With the optional housekeeping and Grab + GO breakfast we’ve found that not only have we reduced overall waste, but we’ve also been able to lower costs – from food and beverage, to linens, cleaning supplies and even labor. It’s also been a great conversation starter for our guests, who want to learn more about how they can participate.”

Hoteliers interested in joining the Travelodge by Wyndham family or learning more about the brand’s environmental platform can visit development.wyndhamhotels.com.

Travelodge is proud to be an official partner of the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), an independent, nonpartisan voice working to strengthen and protect our national parks for future generations. Added Henderson, “Many don’t realize how easy it is to coordinate a cleanup event or how our appreciative parks truly are to have the support of their local communities. We want to help change that. Plus, there’s an added perk: whether it’s with family, friends or a combination of both, volunteering often allows for free park access for the day while, more importantly, ensuring you’re giving back and making a meaningful impact along the way.”

Starlight to receive five percent of every Days Inn booking made with new “Brighter Days” rate

PARSIPPANY, N.J., July 2, 2019 – Days Inn® by Wyndham is looking to bring some extra sunshine to those who need it most this summer, teaming up with Starlight Children’s Foundation to launch its latest design-a-gown contest. Open now, the contest invites Days Inn guests young and old to tap into their childhood creativity and design a children’s hospital gown that brightens the days of young patients while helping them feel safe, empowered and inspired.

For more than 35 years, Starlight Children’s Foundation—the newest philanthropic partner of Days Inn by Wyndham—has delivered happiness to more than 60 million seriously ill children and their families in more than 800 hospitals across the US. Originally debuted in 2016, Starlight Gowns replace unattractive and uncomfortable traditional children’s hospital gowns with ones that are soft and comfortable, tie down the side instead of open in the back and feature fun, brightly colored designs.

In exchange for the top design, one winner will receive 45,000 Wyndham Rewards points, enough for up to six free nights at select Days Inn by Wyndham hotels around the world. What’s more, Days Inn is complementing the contest with the launch of its new “Brighter Days” rate, in which guests save five percent off the best available rate while having five percent of their booking donated to Starlight Children’s Foundation for stays completed by June 20, 2020. To learn more, visit DaysInn.com/Starlight.

“We embrace Starlight’s mission of delivering happiness to seriously ill children and their families,” said Patrick Breen, senior vice president, Brand Operations, Days Inn by Wyndham. “We love that this program taps the creativity of our larger community, specifically those who consider themselves a child at heart, and understand the positive impact they can make to children around the world by simply sharing their creative gifts.”

”For a child, the simple act of changing into a hospital gown can be one of the most stressful moments in their entire hospital experience,” said Adam Garone, CEO, Starlight Children’s Foundation. “We’re so grateful for the generous support of Days Inn by Wyndham, and we’re excited to invite their guests to help us deliver happiness to seriously ill children and their families by creating designs for a fun, comfy, and colorful new Starlight Gown that kids will love to wear.”

Through July 31, 2019, creatives can visit Starlight.org/DaysInn or visit any participating Days Inn hotel to access the gown template and get started on creating their design. Once finished, they must then upload the design at Starlight.org/DaysInn. Alternatively, contestants may also enter by sharing their designs on Facebook or Instagram while using #BrighterDaysContest and tagging @DaysInn and @StarlightChildrensFoundation. The top 5 designs will be selected by a judging panel and will be voted on by the public between August 19 and August 23, 2019. The winner, to be announced on August 28, 2019, will be the design that receives the most votes.
