Wyndham deepens relationship with Safari Group with signing of two new TRYP by Wyndham hotels

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (November 16, 2020) – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company with approximately 9,000 properties across 90 countries, today announced plans to introduce its TRYP® by Wyndham brand to New Zealand with the development of two new hotels: the 212-room TRYP by Wyndham Remarkables Park Queenstown and the 76-room TRYP by Wyndham Tory Street Wellington.

Under development by Safari Group, Wyndham’s longstanding franchise partner in New Zealand, the design-centric hotels are the latest in a series of new projects for Wyndham’s growing lifestyle brand. In just the last year, TRYP by Wyndham has announced new hotels planned for key cities across Australasia including Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth, as well as in key international markets like Orlando, Florida and Manaus, Brazil, to name just a few.

“We are delighted to collaborate with the Safari Group on the launch of our TRYP by Wyndham brand in New Zealand,” said Joon Aun Ooi, president, Asia Pacific, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “New Zealand is a beautiful destination that enchants travelers with its stunning scenery and outdoor adventures. Prior to the pandemic, arrivals to the country were on the rise for six consecutive years. As the world reopens, Wyndham will be ready to welcome travelers back with industry-leading brands in the world’s most sought-after destinations.”

“TRYP by Wyndham, is a perfect fit for Queenstown and Wellington, both lively destinations filled with distinct experiences,” said Andy Flaig, vice president, business development, South East Asia and Pacific Rim, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “With its vibrant design, distinct personality, and connection with local culture, TRYP by Wyndham is ideal for travelers seeking authentic, local experiences. Not only will these hotels stand out from the crowd and appeal to a new generation of travelers, they’ll make the perfect complement to our established Ramada® by Wyndham and Wyndham Garden® hotels in the country.”

Expected to start construction in late 2021 with plans to open in 2023, TRYP by Wyndham Remarkables Park Queenstown is a stylish new hotel that will put guests in the heart of one of the world’s most exciting destinations. The hotel will feature a collection of 212 contemporary guestrooms and serviced apartments boasting panoramic views of the mountains and ski slopes. Guests can also expect a range of food and beverage amenities as well as social spaces to mingle after an exhilarating day exploring the scenic region.

The hotel will form part of the mixed-use development precinct Remarkables Park, which will also offer upscale residences, retail outlets, restaurants and office space. Perfectly positioned just two minutes’ drive from Queenstown Airport and seven minutes from Queenstown’s Central Business District, the hotel is the ideal base for guests to discover the best local experiences the area has to offer.

The TRYP by Wyndham Tory Street Wellington will commence construction early next year and is expected to open in March 2022. The 76-room hotel will reflect a 1920’s art deco theme reminiscent of “old Chicago,” and offer conference space, a fitness room and a rooftop deck and spa. The hotel is ideally positioned close to the waterfront and is a five-minute walk from Cuba Street’s famous entertainment strip of restaurants, bars and vibrant nightlife, for which Wellington was dubbed ‘the coolest little capital in the world’ by Lonely Planet.

“The launch of TRYP by Wyndham in New Zealand marks another major milestone in the long-term relationship between Safari Group and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts,” said Robert Neil, director, Safari Group. “We are incredibly proud to work with Wyndham, one of the world’s leading hospitality companies, as we work to advance New Zealand’s tourism industry. We look forward to celebrating many more achievements in future.”

The above signings mark the latest projects announced in cooperation between Wyndham and Safari Group. Earlier this year, the two companies announced plans to open the LQ Hotel by Wyndham Remarkables Park Queenstown, which will mark the debut of the La Quinta® by Wyndham brand in New Zealand. In 2019, they announced the opening of three Ramada by Wyndham hotels in New Zealand, including the Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Queenstown Central.

TRYP by Wyndham is now present in many of the world’s most dynamic urban areas, including New York City, Dubai, Frankfurt, Istanbul and Sao Paulo.

All of Wyndham’s hotels in Australasia participate in Wyndham Rewards®, the world’s most generous hotel rewards program with more than 30,000 hotels, vacation club resorts and vacation rentals worldwide.

Economy and midscale lodging leader lays foundation for long-term growth, welcoming nearly a dozen new-construction hotels in Q1 and continuing to grow its new-build pipeline for the future

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (May 19,2020) – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE:WH) – the world’s largest hotel franchising company with approximately 9,300 hotels across 90 countries – continues forging ahead with new-construction growth, opening 11 newly built hotels across the U.S. in the first quarter and breaking ground on a number of hotels in its new-construction pipeline. In the same period, the Company executed agreements for more than 25 future new-construction hotels in the U.S., further expanding its pipeline and planting roots for travel recovery in the long term.

Welcoming New Openings

The Company’s 11 new-construction openings in the U.S. represent nearly 1,000 rooms.  The recent openings, including properties across its La Quinta® by Wyndham, Wingate by Wyndham®, Days Inn® by Wyndham, and Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham® brands, are situated in destinations primed for domestic, drive-to leisure travel such as Miramar Beach, Fla.; Houston, Texas; Spokane, Wash.; and Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

Laying Foundation for the Future

Developers are also starting construction on hotels in the pipeline, reinforcing optimism for the industry’s recovery. Developers for Wyndham-branded hotels broke ground on approximately 10 new hotels in the U.S. year-to-date, including a Microtel hotel in Hot Springs, Ark.; a La Quinta hotel in San Antonio, Texas; an extended-stay Hawthorn Suites hotel in Oklahoma City, Okla.; and a Trademark Collection by Wyndham® hotel in Leavenworth, Kan.

“Despite a rapidly changing landscape for hotel developers around the world, a number of our owners are pressing forward with new-construction projects in the economy and midscale segments, reinforcing our overall confidence in the long-term viability of our industry,” said Krishna Paliwal, head of Architecture, Design and Construction for Wyndham. “New-construction growth, however gradual, represents our optimism for the future of travel. Not only do our highly recognizable brands provide significant value to hotel owners who join the Wyndham family, especially during difficult times, but they also represent the consistent, trusted and affordable experience travelers will be seeking now more than ever before.”

Igniting the Conversion Engine

Though construction has generally slowed across the industry, Wyndham continues to welcome new projects while igniting its powerful conversion engine, which is fueled by the strong value proposition across its portfolio of well-known brands. In the first quarter, Wyndham’s conversion pipeline increased 8% globally year-over-year.  The Company has a proven track record of growing net rooms during lodging cycle downturns and, with over 15,000 independent economy and midscale hotels in the U.S., converting independent hotels to Wyndham brands remains an important source of consistent rooms growth for the Company through both up and down cycles.

Well-Positioned for Recovery

The impact of COVID-19 continues to rapidly evolve and many factors remain uncertain. As the pandemic begins to abate in the U.S., Wyndham’s existing franchisees are likely to be well-positioned for recovery. The Company operates a nearly 90% drive-to business in the U.S. with a concentration in the select-service chain scale segments – which have outperformed higher end full service hotels during the pandemic – and over 95% of its domestic guests originate within the U.S., making them less reliant on air travel.

Wyndham also recently announced “Count on UsSM,” a new long-term, multi-faceted initiative to build confidence among guests and to support franchisees as it prepares to welcome travelers back to its U.S. hotels. The initiative will immediately focus on further elevating health and safety protocols at Wyndham hotels in the wake of COVID-19, shoring up critical supply chains and introducing new standards, training and guidelines grounded in guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Wyndham has expanded its relationship with industry leader Ecolab on requiring consistent use of Ecolab’s EPA-approved disinfectants in guestrooms and public spaces nationwide.

Two signings for new construction hotels in Auckland and Queenstown mark the brand’s first locations in South East Asia and the Pacific Rim

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company with approximately 9,300 properties located across 90 countries, and a leading provider of hotel management services, today announced La Quinta by Wyndham’s inaugural launch into the South East Asia and Pacific Rim (SEAPR) region with the signing of two new hotels in New Zealand.

La Quinta by Wyndham, to be known as LQ by Wyndham in the SEAPR region, is a leading upper-midscale brand with over 925 destinations in the Americas and Europe, offering contemporary design, thoughtful amenities and friendly service. Wyndham acquired La Quinta’s hotel franchise and management businesses in 2018, further building upon the company’s diverse family of hotel brands and offerings around the world.

The announcement comes off the back of the brand’s recent European debut in Istanbul – the first La Quinta to open outside the Americas – and underscores Wyndham’s commitment to accelerate the growth of the brand’s footprint internationally. In 2019 Wyndham announced plans to debut the brand in the Caribbean market by opening eight hotels across the Dominican Republic within five years, and it grew La Quinta’s footprint in Mexico and Chile in 2018.

The first hotels set to fly the brand’s flag in New Zealand will be located in Auckland and Queenstown under a franchise agreement with Safari Group, Wyndham’s long-standing partner in the region.

“We are delighted to deepen our relationship the Safari Group and to introduce another sought-after and growing brand to New Zealand, and the SEAPR region. Despite the current situation, we are confident of the tourism momentum in New Zealand and that international travellers will return to seek out the country’s natural attractions and stunning scenery. As visitors return to discover this beautiful country, Wyndham will be there to cater for their needs with a collection of exceptional hotels and resorts in key locations nationwide,” said Joon Aun Ooi, President and Managing Director, SEAPR, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

“With hundreds of properties already operating in the Americas and a global expansion strategy also underway, La Quinta by Wyndham is a proven favourite among guests and hotel developers alike. I am confident that our customers in New Zealand will love the brand’s blend of upper-midscale comfort and convenience. We look forward to introducing this concept to domestic and international travellers in the country, as part of our multi-brand expansion in SEAPR,” added Andy Flaig, Head of Development, SEAPR, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

“Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is a proven partner with whom we have already developed many successful hotels under the notable Ramada by Wyndham and Wyndham Garden brands. We are very proud and privileged to expand this relationship and launch the LQ by Wyndham brand in New Zealand which is set to offer a range of high-quality accommodation options to travellers,” commented Rob Neil, director, Safari Group.

Nestled next to the scenic Kawarau River, not far from Queenstown Airport, the 87-key LQ by Wyndham Remarkables Park, set to open its doors in late 2020, will be a great base for visitors who want to immerse themselves in nature. As New Zealand’s adventure tourism capital, Queenstown is the perfect place to enjoy adrenalin-fuelled activities such as white-water rafting and bungee jumping from the Kawarau Bridge – the site of the world’s first commercial bungee jump.

The 246-key LQ by Wyndham Greenlane Auckland, located on the Great South Road in the city’s Ellerslie district, will be conveniently located between Auckland Airport and Auckland CBD, appealing to both leisure and corporate travellers alike. Guests will be a short drive from leading attractions such as Ellerslie Racecourse, Mt Smart Stadium, and a range of high end shopping precincts. This hotel is scheduled to welcome guests in mid-2022.

Both LQ by Wyndham Remarkables Park and LQ by Wyndham Greenlane Auckland will feature a mix of accommodation for short and extended stays, and facilities including fitness centres and “grab & go” cafés.

In total, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts currently offers 13 hotels and resorts across New Zealand under three of its distinct brands – Wyndham Garden®, Ramada® by Wyndham, and Days Inn® by Wyndham – in sought-after destinations like Auckland, Queenstown, Wellington, Christchurch, Albany, Rotorua, Taipa, Hamilton, and Wanaka. All hotels participate in Wyndham Rewards®, the world’s most generous hotel rewards program with thousands of hotels, vacation club resorts and vacation rentals worldwide.

Targeting lower development costs, new Arbor prototype streamlines construction and operations with nature-inspired design and smart, simplified F&B program redefining traveler expectations

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (January 28, 2020) – Wyndham Garden® – part of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH), the world’s largest hotel franchising company with more than 9,200 hotels in over 80 countries – today showcased Arbor: a cost-effective, new-construction prototype with a fresh perspective on guest experience and a smart layout designed to maximize efficiencies and challenge rising construction costs.

As part of Wyndham’s efforts to maximize value for owners, Arbor aims to reduce construction costs while enriching the guest experience. The four-story, 110-room prototype is inspired by the harmony of nature, bringing the outside in with elements of dappled light, textured wood, natural fabrics and flexible outdoor space. The blueprint offers developers a scalable option at under 58,000 square feet, fitted for less than two acres of land.

The brand also introduced a new food and beverage concept named Nice&Vice, crafted by celebrity chef Jet Tila, empowering guests to choose their dining experience in a way that’s convenient, satisfying and unexpected. The Nice&Vice menu offers a selection of delicious and easy dishes strategically streamlined from just a few ingredients that also can ease impact to the bottom line.

“With the majority of Americans spending less than seven percent of their day outdoors, we wanted to create spaces that bring the outside in, honoring our brand’s identity with a connection to nature to help our guests travel at ease,” said Danica Boyd, Wyndham Garden brand leader. “We also recognize the importance of thoughtful planning in today’s construction climate, and designed Arbor as a breath of fresh air for both guests and developers. With a new look, a sharper footprint and a creative dining experience, Wyndham Garden is planting new roots for a future built on smart, sophisticated design – from the ground up.”

The launch of Wyndham Garden’s new Arbor prototype is a critical next step in Wyndham’s new-construction growth strategy, which began with Microtel® Inn & Suites by Wyndham’s Moda prototype last year.  With a newly expanded design and construction team – led by the experts behind the widely respected development practices of La Quinta® by Wyndham – the Company is introducing competitive and efficient prototypes across some of its growing brands to build a foundation for long-term growth and help drive success for its owners. Wyndham Garden’s Arbor prototype advances the Company’s strategy in the upper-midscale space, elevating one of its namesake brands and positioning it for incremental expansion.

Wyndham Garden continues to be one of the fastest-growing brands in the Company’s portfolio, experiencing 68% system growth over the last five years. The brand is expanding its global presence, debuting its first hotels in Argentina, Oman and the Philippines in 2019 and preparing to debut in the countries of Georgia and Australia next year. Developers interested in building a Wyndham Garden hotel can learn more at BuildWyndhamGarden.com.

The Arrival of Arbor

With a thoughtfully planned layout and design, Arbor brings a sense of ease and convenience to both guests and owners – a hallmark of the Wyndham Garden brand. Designed by renowned architectural firm CallisonRTKL, the Arbor prototype offers simple framing and foundation across approximately 57,500 gross square feet to help reduce construction costs and meet land requirements in a range of markets. The brand enlisted a Developer Advisory Council, made up of a dozen developers across multiple brands and segments, to provide feedback on critical elements of the prototype including back-of-house design and lobby configuration.

The interior design creates an airy, approachable experience for guests through a balance of nature and structure with expanded natural light, a focus on texture, naturally inspired materials and wood-look accents. The entry experience creates the sense of walking to a serene clearing, with an abstract interpretation of an arbor adorning the ceiling – starting from the porte cochere and extending through the lobby into the back patio – accented by wooden features and clustered pendent lighting creating an anchored path. Public spaces incorporate intimate gathering areas including a flexible outdoor space with communal seating, a fire pit and a creative recreation area for lawn games.

Guest rooms feature serene color schemes, luxe textures and clean, simple lines. The brand also expects to offer hotels the option to provide upgraded, premium wellness features through Delos’ Fresh by Stay Well® program, including air purifiers, mood-enhancing aromatherapy, and shower infusers that neutralize chlorine.

A Modern New Menu

Based on research showing travelers seek both healthy and indulgent experiences, Wyndham Garden created Nice&Vice to empower travelers to choose their dining experience – whether they want to stay on track or enjoy something a little indulgent – with consistently delicious meals. Wyndham Garden partnered with Food Network celebrity Chef Jet Tila to create elevated dishes that are convenient and satisfying.

From the ‘Chicken, Grains and Greens Bowl’ to ‘Sticky Spicy Chicken Wings’ and more, Nice&Vice is purpose-built to offer choice for guests while streamlining supply costs and kitchen space for operators. The menu relies on a condensed selection of ingredients that can be combined to create multiple dishes, all of which can be cooked in a Turbo ChefTM oven, making execution delicious, quick and more cost-effective.

Hotels will also introduce the Nice&Vice Market, a twist on traditional grab-and-go marts that will offer elevated snacks, healthy bites, fresh salads and quick meals alongside more decadent treats.

Developed with help of celebrity designer Alison Victoria, concept aligns with brand’s new aesthetic and is packed with unique features perfect for modern day group travelers

PARSIPPANY, N.J., October 24, 2019 – Super 8® by Wyndham, the world’s largest economy hotel brand, today unveiled the winning design for its first-ever shared room concept, ROOM8. Developed by Candice Buttars, an undergraduate design student at Utah State University, with support from celebrity interior designer and TV personality Alison Victoria, the concept reimagines the traditional hotel suite in an effort to accommodate a new generation of road trippers who thrive in communal spaces.

Piloting at select Super 8 locations as early as next year and anchored by unique features like vintage arcade games and individual sleeping spaces for up to four guests, the innovative room concept was sourced through the brand’s recent ROOM8 Design Challenge, which called on aspiring designers, co-living experts and urbanites to submit renderings of an original concept that would provide a functional, yet elevated experience to today’s influx of group travelers.

“Super 8 is known for being travelers’ companion on the road and the introduction of ROOM8 brings that promise to life in a whole new way,” said Mike Mueller, Super 8 Brand President. “More and more, we’re seeing groups of guests who want space to stretch out and relax, but without the sacrifice of giving up their own private sleeping space. The unique design developed by Candice and Alison is the ideal solution. Whether it’s a group of millennials, a young family or an on-the-road construction crew, ROOM8 delivers the perfect balance of privacy and community.”ROOM8 RenderingsDuring the design process, Victoria served as Buttars’ mentor and the pair worked together, one-on-one, to evolve what would become the final design.

“From the second I learned about the design challenge, I knew that I had to submit a concept,” said Candice Buttars, student and winner of the ROOM8 contest. “As a college student and aspiring designer, you dream of getting to work with a household name like Super 8 by Wyndham, let alone someone as accomplished as Alison Victoria. To take what I know, not only as a designer, but also as the target customer for this project, and be able to meld it into my vision, creating something entirely new, has been incredibly rewarding.”

Among the amenities that make ROOM8 unique:

  • A group-focused blend of digital and analog entertainment including vintage arcade games; a streaming-ready, 65-inch wall-mounted TV; cornhole boards, a foosball table and more
  • Abundant seating and an open dining layout, complete with an apartment-sized refrigerator and microwave
  • Individual sleeping spaces and beds for up to four guests
  • USB ports, AC outlets and wireless charging stations, room-wide

The creation of ROOM8 comes on the heels of the largest redesign in Super 8 brand history, a multi-year effort during which the brand’s hotels across the U.S. and Canada invested more than $140 million into room renovations, elevating the Super 8 guest experience.

Microtel by Wyndham Guiyang opens in heart of Guiyang’s financial district; two additional Microtel hotels slated to open in China later this year as Wyndham capitalizes on increase in inbound and domestic tourism

SHANGHAI, CHINA, October 10, 2019 – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company with approximately 9,200 hotels across more than 80 countries, today announced the arrival of its award-winning Microtel® by Wyndham brand in China with the opening of the 192-room Microtel by Wyndham Guiyang.

Located in the heart of Guiyang, in Southwest China’s Guizhou province, the opening marks a key milestone for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts as it continues to aggressively expand its presence across China, introducing new brands and hotels to key primary and secondary markets. Wyndham is the largest international hotel franchisor in China, with a portfolio of more than 1,500 hotels across 11 brands in the region, including recent additions under Wingate® by Wyndham and TRYP® by Wyndham, which entered the region in 2018 and 2017, respectively.

“Since 2015, Wyndham has successfully introduced four new brands to the China market,” said Leo Liu, president and managing director of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts in Greater China. “With inbound and domestic tourism in China rising year over year, this creates tremendous opportunity for brands like Microtel, which is purpose-built for the needs of today’s modern travelers, particularly millennials, with stylish rooms and efficient, tech-centric amenities.”

Brilliantly Efficient and Built for the Modern Traveler
Microtel is a trailblazer in efficiency, all-new construction and award-winning service, focused on delivering long-term value and quality for today’s hotel guests and owners. In China, Microtel depicts a neo-futurism design concept, which is characterized by contemporary architecture, novel shape, clean-cut lines and a minimalist interior.

Specific for the market and lifestyle traveler in China, and to align with Wyndham’s strategy in the country, Microtel by Wyndham Guiyang takes the brand’s modern efficiencies and minimalist look to the next level by incorporating a new, streamlined design, including a neutral color palette of black, white, grey and beige. Because of this, and to expand in a faster pace in line with demand in the region, Microtel in China will be a select-service lifestyle brand, where functionality doesn’t compromise style.

Microtel by Wyndham Guiyang
The newly-built, 192-room Microtel by Wyndham Guiyang is situated in building 4 of the International Finance Center in the Guanshanhu District. The 21-floor hotel is in in the heart of Guiyang’s core financial district, and only a 10-minute walk from the Ecological Conference Center and five-minute walk from the nearby metro station. Offering sweeping city views, it is the first intelligent hotel in Guiyang thanks to in-room voice automation, which allows guests to control lighting, temperature and the television, and check weather conditions and traffic patterns by speaking to a small, table top device. Further, a self-check-in and check-out kiosk is available for an accelerated arrival and exit experience. The kiosk supports fast electronic payment through scanning a QR code, so guests can spend more time enjoying other amenities and exploring sites around Guiyang.

In addition to one all-day dining restaurant, the hotel will feature two meeting facilities that cater to 50 and 100 guests, respectively. Additionally, complimentary laundry and free access to the gym are available for every staying guest.
Wyndham already has plans to continue expanding Microtel’s footprint across Greater China, as two more Microtel hotels have been signed and are scheduled to open later this year. This includes a new Microtel in Hangzhou, which will incorporate in-room technology from Xiaomi Youpin, a top electronics company in China. Microtel will leverage its collaboration with Xiaomi Youpin in an effort to further explore hotel automation and artificial intelligence functions.

Spearheading Wyndham’s largescale new construction growth strategy, Microtel’s modern design lifts the economy segment’s only all-new construction hotel brand rivaling midscale aesthetic and performance

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (March 21, 2019) – Microtel® by Wyndham, the award-winning economy hotel brand under Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH), today unveiled its newest prototype, a reimagined interior and exterior concept designed to further elevate the brand, reduce building costs, optimize efficiencies and drive greater returns for developers. The prototype is the first step of Wyndham’s overarching new construction growth strategy focused on delivering long-term value and quality for owners.

The new prototype, Moda, represents the evolution of the Microtel brand emphasizing modern efficiency and minimalism for today’s guest and owner. The new exterior architecture and interior design elevate the brand’s spaces to match the midscale experience it already delivers – now at an even more competitive, economy cost to build. Moda reduces Microtel’s total footprint by 28 percent versus the prior prototype. The design also delivers more than 70 percent of rentable space – one of the strongest in both the economy and midscale segments.

“Microtel is the epitome of efficiency: it outperforms the segment, offers streamlined operations and leads its peers in guest satisfaction,” said Keri Putera, vice president, Brand Operations, Microtel by Wyndham. “As we build on the brand’s existing model, we’ve identified small, purposeful details which can drive large, incremental savings for developers and create a significant impact on the experience for our guests. Moda – a term symbolizing both style and precision – simplifies operations through design while tapping into the growing trend of minimalism, addressing the changing needs of today’s travelers and owners.”

The first hotels leveraging the new prototype are set to break ground in 2019.

Development Disruptor

Microtel’s transformative next step is the first of a multi-pronged growth strategy for Wyndham Hotels & Resorts as it builds the foundation for future expansion just over nine months into its tenure as a pure-play hotel company.

Wyndham’s new development strategy prioritizes quality and longevity in the economy and midscale segments via smart investment and partnering with growing entrepreneurs. Taking a page from the industry-leading practices of its newly acquired La Quinta® by Wyndham brand, the company’s strategy underscores new construction growth, design-driven conversions and a redesigned franchisee journey emphasizing added value over the lifetime of the investment.

“Microtel is already a category-killer in the economy segment and is poised to disrupt in the midscale segment where it often competes, making it the perfect first step as we set out to transform the new construction landscape in both these segments,” said David Wilner, senior vice president, New Construction Development, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “With a focus on streamlined new construction models like Moda, we are paving the way for continued expansion across our economy and midscale brands and creating a foundation of long-term support for entrepreneurial hoteliers growing their businesses.”

A More Efficient Microtel by Wyndham

Developed in collaboration with seasoned Microtel owners and award-winning architect firm, Hoefer Wysocki, Moda incorporates modern architecture, smart interior staples like wall-hung furniture and minimalist interior design trends to appeal to millennials and today’s business and leisure travelers.

According to Mayflower, millennials are leading the way when it comes to streamlined living spaces with the bare essentials, with 23 percent significantly more likely to say they’re minimalists when it comes to purging things or belongings. The Moda prototype delivers a sleek, minimalist look and feel contributing to an elevated guest experience while also streamlining costs to develop.

Exterior Highlights

  • The new design includes a four-story exterior facade option and features a new, flat-roof design, elevating Microtel’s visibility, signage and status from its previous pitched-roof design.
  • The building itself is sleeker, reducing the total number of cut-outs in the foundation by modeling a Bauhaus architectural style – at 34,700 to 35,700 square feet, it’s saving developers significant square footage material costs.
  • The design changes minimize the brand’s land requirements by 11 percent, affording developers more freedom and flexibility to build.

Interior Highlights

  • The interior design delivers layout and maintenance efficiencies inspired by conversations with owners and operators across the industry.
  • Leaner and more modular, Moda uniformly positions guestrooms by unit type – suites, doubles and singles – allowing for natural building breaks and flow.
  • Wall-mounted headboards, desks and televisions help housekeepers turn guestrooms faster, maximize open guest space and appeal to the personal aesthetic of today’s millennial travelers.

Incorporating the Franchisee’s Fingerprint

Helping to ensure Moda fits the owner and guest bill at each stage of the design process – from first conceptualization to final prototype – is a team of Microtel owners and industry vets, including a 15-person Microtel Developer Advisory Council offering feedback and expertise. The brand tapped owners, operators and general managers from various brands, markets and segments to work hand-in-glove with designers integrating additional operational feedback into the design.

Microtel owner and Franchise Advisory Board member Chad Moore is one of the first to sign executed agreements to build two new Moda prototypes in Milford and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware in 2019.

“I like to keep things simple, especially in business, and Microtel lets me do this,” said Moore, seasoned owner of the Microtel by Wyndham Georgetown in Delaware. “Moda streamlines the development and operations of the hotel – while strongly upholding the defining design and service principles that have made Microtel the economy champion it is today – making the new Microtel an even more attractive, lucrative and valuable long-term investment.”

As of December 2018, Microtel has 82 hotels in the development pipeline – 59 in the United States and 23 internationally.
