New “Extra Mile” initiative aims to show support and gratitude amid growing number of in-flight incidents

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – (May 17, 2022) – Unruly passengers. Oversold flights. Weather delays. In any given year, flight attendants see and deal with it all. Now, just ahead of the busy summer travel season, Wyndham®—the namesake brand of the world’s largest hotel franchising company—is looking to show its appreciation for aviation’s first responders with the brand’s new “Extra Mile” initiative.

Created in collaboration with TV personality and former flight attendant, Lauren Lane, on May 31, 2022—International Flight Attendant Day—Wyndham will celebrate attendants as they check-in at select hotels across the U.S., surprising and delighting them with $10 gift cards to popular retailers like Starbucks® and Amazon®, while others will receive a free weekend stay at the Wyndham hotel of their choice. All gifts will be awarded in the form of Wyndham Rewards® points, with 1,000 gifts slated to be given away.

“Our Wyndham team members consistently go the extra mile and the same is true of our travel counterparts in the sky, so many of whom are the first touch point on our guests’ journey to us,” said Jurgen Schafers, Wyndham brand leader and vice president of operations. “With thousands of attendants staying with Wyndham, often in between routes, this is our way of saying thank you and letting them know we appreciate all they do.”

Wyndham’s Extra Mile initiative comes on the heels of a multi-year increase in air-travel related incidents, which in just the last year was up more than 112%, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

“Being a flight attendant can be a thankless job. The selflessness, calm and confidence these men and women exude is so often overlooked,” said Lane. “It’s why I chose to team up with Wyndham on this initiative. These are individuals who every day, overcome challenges and adversity to deliver exceptional experiences to keep travelers safe. They deserve to be celebrated, and I’m so happy that with the help of Wyndham, we’re able to do just that.”

Complementing the on-property giveaways at its hotels, Wyndham is also accepting online nominations to recognize one extra-deserving flight attendant with a 7-night stay at any Wyndham hotel (provided in the form of Wyndham Rewards points) plus a complimentary one-year upgrade to Wyndham Rewards Diamond membership, which includes perks like free WiFi, early check-in, late checkout, suite upgrades, rental car upgrades and more.

Now through May 31, 2022, those looking to nominate a friend, family member, co-worker—or even themselves— can submit a short essay of at least 100 words to [email protected]. Submissions should offer a window into how the flight attendant has gone the extra mile to provide outstanding service to passengers. Entries must comply with the official rules and must include a photo of the flight attendant in uniform, both the nominator’s and the flight attendant’s full name and email address, and the flight attendant’s place of residency (city and state) and airline name.

Wyndham will select the winning flight attendant from all nominations on or about June 17, 2022. No purchase is necessary to enter, and the approximate retail value of the prize is $1,050.   • Origin Austin, a Wyndham Hotel – A new lifestyle hotel that is coming to the booming east Austin neighborhood and scheduled to open in early 2021, this new five-story, 120-room property is located inside Mueller’s Aldrich Street district and home to local shops and restaurants. The hotel will cater to a clientele hungry for experiences and a “choose-your-own-adventure room experience,” ranging from bunk beds to well-appointed suites with terraces.   • Hotel Tupelo, a Wyndham Hotel – A four-story, 80-room, boutique hotel in downtown Tupelo, Miss. scheduled to open in late 2021, this hotel will incorporate design nods to Tupelo’s history while maintaining a modern and upscale feel. The property will offer a local restaurant concept along with meeting space. The hotel is designed to be the perfect intersection for locals and travelers alike to gather.
  • Hotel Morgan, a Wyndham Hotel – Since 1925, Hotel Morgan has been a part of Morgantown, West Virginia history. The 83-room hotel is located just blocks away from West Virginia University’s campus. This hotel will also feature two ballrooms and two boardrooms, including a grand ballroom that is a perfect backdrop for weddings and conferences. An additional restaurant is expected to open in 2022, serving Latin American cuisine on the hotel’s al fresco terrace. Wyndham Dubai Deira also features eight day-lit meeting rooms that can cater for up to 300 guests.

Company capitalizes on record-setting tourism growth as visitor numbers soar

BANGKOK, THAILAND (2 September 2019) – Wyndham Hotels & Resorts – the world’s largest hotel franchisor with approximately 9,200 hotels across more than 80 countries – expects to welcome several new properties in Thailand by the end of 2020 under its upscale Wyndham® brand.

Thailand’s tourism industry continues to set new records. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the country welcomed 31.25 million international visitors in the first ten months of 2018, up 7.8 percent year-on-year. The full-year total for 2018 is certain to have exceeded the TAT’s target of 36 million visitors, representing a new all-time high.

 

Thriving in Thailand

Southeast Asia continues to be Wyndham’s fastest-growing region, growing 22% year-over-year and currently comprises over 24,000 rooms. The Company continues to expand its presence in the region with new hotels slated to open in Thailand by the end of 2020:

  • Wyndham Nai Harn Resort Phuket, scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2019, will become the first internationally-branded hotel in the Nai Harn area of Phuket. Owned by Cissa Group Co., Ltd, this tranquil resort will be unlike any other hotel in Phuket, with a large swimmable lagoon covering the entire ground floor, flowing between the buildings and directly accessible from many of the 353 rooms and suites. Guests will have a choice of restaurants, a swim-up bar, a rooftop garden and lounge, a spa and wellness centre as well as meeting rooms.
  • Wyndham Chalong Phuket, scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2020 and also owned by Cissa Group Co., Ltd, will feature 150 pool villas, including two- and three-bedroom options. Located near Chalong Bay, the resort will also offer an all-day restaurant, a bar, a spa, a fitness centre and modern meeting spaces.
  • Wyndham Atlas Wongamat Pattaya, opening in late 2020 on the country’s popular Eastern Seaboard, will feature 192 rooms and suites, a restaurant, a lounge, a fitness centre and meeting space. This new-build hotel will be crowned by a dramatic rooftop pool and garden with views of the sea.

 

Earlier this year, the Company opened three new hotels as part of its ongoing expansion plans, including a milestone development of its first two hotels in the Krabi province:

  • Ramada Plaza by Wyndham Chaofah Phuket, owned by CAS Holding, is located in the historic heart of Phuket Town and reflects the island’s cultural heritage with its Peranakan style. Surrounded by attractions including the King Power duty free retail complex, this upper-midscale hotel features 257 rooms and suites, two restaurants, a fitness centre and a spectacular rooftop infinity pool with views of Phuket Town and the Big Buddha.   • Ramada by Wyndham Aonang Krabi, owned by the Nagapura Group, is perfectly positioned in Aonang, Krabi’s most popular beachfront tourism district. The hotel features 80 rooms, including six pool villas and 15 rooms with direct access to the resort’s outdoor pool.   • Days Inn by Wyndham Aonang Krabi, also owned by the Nagapura Group, is nestled on the seafront overlooking the azure Andaman Sea, and offers 38 bright and inviting rooms and suites, plus an ocean-facing restaurant, a swimming pool and pool bar.

Wyndham Acmar Klang will become the first international upscale hotel in this strategically important city, and is expected to be the leading choice for business travellers, meeting planners and leisure guests upon opening in the third quarter of 2019. Located close to three major national highways, the hotel is just 30 minutes from Kuala Lumpur and 40 minutes from KLIA. The hotel is owned by the Acmar Group of Companies and will be managed by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
