Reaffirms dedication to our nation’s parks with renewed three-year commitment
PARSIPPANY, N.J. (April 19, 2021) – Travelodge® by Wyndham today announced it is awarding a $25,000 challenge grant to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), reaffirming its commitment to protecting and preserving our nation’s parks while challenging others to help match its efforts with a smaller donation of their own.
One of many collaborations happening between Travelodge and NPCA this week to mark National Park Week, the challenge grant, which aims to raise a combined $50,000 between Travelodge and other donors, comes amid rising visitation and increased strain on park resources due to lingering effects of the ongoing pandemic. Last year, over 237 million people visited America’s national parks, with 15 parks setting a new recreation visitation record1. Travelers are invited to make a donation to help match the challenge grant by visiting, www.travelodge.com/npca.
“National Park Week is a chance to celebrate and show appreciation for our nation’s parks, which throughout the pandemic have played a critical role as a safe and fulfilling escape for travelers and their families,” said Haley Maglio, brand leader of Travelodge by Wyndham. “As a brand with a deep love and connection to the outdoors, we’re incredibly proud to help champion NPCA with this grant, supporting its mission and further enabling the critical work it does as it protects and enhances America’s national park system for current and future generations.”
In tandem with the challenge grant, Travelodge also announced today a three-year renewal of its commitment to NPCA along with plans to participate in other coordinated National Park Week activities, including a virtual “Park Talk” webinar with Maglio. The two organizations have collaborated together since 2016 and in that time, Travelodge has provided more than $750,000 in support of NPCA and its work to protect the parks. Over 75 percent of all Travelodge hotels are within an hour’s drive of a national parks.
“Our national parks are as unique as the people visiting them, offering unforgettable experiences that we carry with us and share with a hope that future generation will continue to see these places the way we do today,” said Theresa Pierno, president and CEO for the National Parks Conservation Association. “We are thankful for the years-long and generous support of Travelodge where together, we’re reaching park adventurers about ways to speak up and protect the places they love, from Yellowstone to Everglades, and how to do so responsibly throughout their travels.”
Travelodge’s continued support of NPCA and the nation’s parks is complemented by its ongoing commitment to promoting eco-friendly travel. Known for being travelers’ basecamp for adventure, the brand’s Travelodge + Go Green program aims to reduce the carbon footprint of over 450 hotels throughout North America with eco-friendly initiatives around breakfast, housekeeping and bath amenities.

With room openings doubled year-over-year, adventure-focused economy brand accelerates growth with new initiatives aimed to lower costs, attract new owners and promote practical sustainability
PARSIPPANY, N.J. (Nov. 7, 2019) – Travelodge® by Wyndham – part of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: WH), the world’s largest hotel franchising company with more than 9,200 hotels in over 80 countries – is building upon its 2019 growth momentum with the introduction of a new program in 2020 touting initiatives that streamline operations to drive value to owners while helping reduce the brand’s environmental impact.
The adventure-focused brand, which has more than doubled its openings year-over-year as of the third quarter, has a history of eco-friendly efforts based on its strong concentration near many U.S. national parks. The new initiative, Travelodge + GO Green, aims to reduce overall waste while increasing operating efficiencies – and cost savings – with new breakfast, housekeeping and amenity programs.
“With more than 75 percent of hotels just an hour’s drive from a national park, Travelodge has always supported the preservation of our natural resources for generations of travelers to come,” said John Henderson, brand leader of Travelodge. “As we continue to grow the brand in new destinations, we’re taking that commitment one step further by reducing our impact on the environment while making our hotels even more efficient to own and operate.”
Travelodge + GO Green will introduce several new initiatives in 2020, including:
Flexible Breakfast: Travelodge franchisees will have the option to choose the right breakfast offering for their local market. To reduce waste, hotels in markets that don’t require full continental breakfast may consider alternate offerings such as a 24-hour coffee station, signature Grab + GO snack bags, or a revenue-generating mart option.
Green Housekeeping: Following a successful four-month pilot, Travelodge hotels will offer guests the opportunity to opt out of housekeeping service in exchange for 500 Wyndham Rewards® points per stay. The effort not only supports the brand’s award-winning Wyndham Rewards program, but also creates opportunities for savings in cleaning and laundry supplies.
Bulk Soap Amenities: Travelodge is also in the process of identifying eco-friendly, cost-effective and attractive soap dispenser solutions to reduce single-use plastics and amenity waste.
Slated to launch in early 2020, the program is designed to attract hoteliers who believe in sensible, sustainable operations and connect with new generations of conscious travelers. Eric Sheckleton, who owns three Travelodge by Wyndham hotels in the vicinity of Yellowstone National Park, was an early adopter of the brand’s new breakfast and housekeeping programs:
“As an adventure traveler myself, I fell in love with Travelodge’s basecamp for adventure message and was so excited to hear that the brand is exploring innovative ways for owners to reduce their environmental footprint,” said Sheckleton. “With the optional housekeeping and Grab + GO breakfast we’ve found that not only have we reduced overall waste, but we’ve also been able to lower costs – from food and beverage, to linens, cleaning supplies and even labor. It’s also been a great conversation starter for our guests, who want to learn more about how they can participate.”

Newest eco-friendly initiative celebrates anniversary of the National Park Service
PARSIPPANY, N.J., August 15, 2019 – Travelodge® by Wyndham, known for being travelers’ basecamp for adventure, is ramping up efforts to protect and preserve our nation’s parks this summer with the launch of “Adventure Responsibly,” a nation-wide conservation initiative that invites the public to join the brand in organized park cleanup events coast-to-coast.
Launching in advance of the anniversary of the National Park Service on August 25, this summer, Travelodge is working with park rangers to host volunteers at four public cleanup events across the country: Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, Everglades National Park in Miami, Bear Mountain State Park in New York, and Yellowstone National Park in Montana. What’s more, the brand is furthering the impact of these efforts by helping educate the public on how to organize and host cleanup and preservation events of their own.
“Travel to our most precious natural wonders is at an all-time high and at Travelodge we’re proud to be a catalyst for those looking to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors,” said John Henderson, brand leader of Travelodge by Wyndham. “Unfortunately, as crowds rise, the infrastructure and resources of these amazing destinations becomes increasingly strained, making them more susceptible to pollution and degradation. That’s why initiatives like Adventure Responsibly, and the increasing support of volunteers, is needed now more than ever.”
Help Travelodge Preserve Our Nation’s Parks Now through September 9, travelers and the public can sign-up to participate in one of Travelodge’s hosted park cleanup events by visiting and registering at www.travelodge.com/volunteer. Events will be held rain or shine and are scheduled for the following dates:
August 27: Rocky Mountain National Park – Denver, Colorado
August 29: Everglades National Park – Miami, Florida
September 5: Bear Mountain State Park – Rockland County, New York
September 9: Yellowstone National Park – Gardiner, Montana
Those unable to join, either due to scheduling or location, are encouraged to partner with family and friends and organize a cleanup event of their own. To get started, visit www.travelodge.com/volunteer.
Added Henderson, “Many don’t realize how easy it is to coordinate a cleanup event or how our appreciative parks truly are to have the support of their local communities. We want to help change that. Plus, there’s an added perk: whether it’s with family, friends or a combination of both, volunteering often allows for free park access for the day while, more importantly, ensuring you’re giving back and making a meaningful impact along the way.”
With more than 75 percent of all Travelodge hotels located just an hour’s drive from a national park, Travelodge has a long history of celebrating and helping protect our nation’s park and is proud to be an official partner of National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA).
